Dr Farrell is unique among 'alternative' researchers. He covers an enormous amount of ground in his work (from ancient mythology to cutting edge physics, via the Middle Ages, Hitler, the Nazi diaspora and modern politics).This book adds to Dr Farrell's previous works covering WW2 and Nazis. It examines the weird case of Rudolph Hess, his strange flight to England in 1942, his imprisonment in Spandau and his eventual (questionable) death there.What was Hess up to? Who did he intend to meet in England that night? Would this meeting have altered the outcome of the war? What about his strange performance at Nuremberg, his claims that he had been brainwashed, and persistent rumours that the man in the dock was not the original Rudolf Hess??? (If this was a double, what happened to the original??) Why was this man kept in Spandau, alone, so many years after all the other Nazis had been released? What were his captors scared of?Come to think of it, what did Hess have to do with the Nazi (and Allied) fascination with Antarctica??What did the band, Spandau Ballet, know about the deep background to the Hess Mess??As usual, Dr Farrell takes a forensic, academic approach to his subject. He covers the historical documents and subsequent academic research into Hess's case (and his footnotes are always worth studying). In the process he uncovers some amazing coincidences that cast the Hess Mess into a whole new light. This is another classic Farrell book, written in his classic academic style, peppered with humorous insights and mind blowing connections. As usual, this trip around Harvey's barn throws history (or, the standard version of history) into a cocked hat. This book, like all of Dr Farrell's books, is well worth the investment.
Like others, I resisted this book when it first came out. As it's been a dry season (and long winter) I felt that sub-par Farrell was better than none, so I got it. I have not cared for any of his "Nazi" books and doubted this would be an exception.Wrong! And glad to be proven thus. Possibly the most compulsively readable of Farrell's work since The Cosmic War, this book might even convince the intelligent reader that human history itself was altered forever on May 10. 1941.Since I'd read Double Standards (an oft-referred to earlier Hess volume in this book) when it came out, I really doubted any new Hess material would be especially surprising. But Farrell draws attention to the dynamics of what was going on in both the Third Reich and Great Britain, showing a double whammy that might have been in the works in late springtime of 1941. And it honestly threw me for a loop. Indeed, everything after that season could have altered so much that we could be living in a totally different world right now.Kidding? No, and it's also a breeze of a read. You'll wish there were a way to find out FOR SURE what happened, but Farrell's speculations, backed by massive amounts of evidence and synthesized with great clarity shows quite a lot fell apart in 1941.We may never know the whole story. There are enough nuggets in this volume to convince even the most hardened Hess skeptic that there's more to this story than anyone thought.
I found this book to be an interesting read. Joseph Farrell has presented numerous questions about Rudolf Hess, Hitler's and Churchill's government. Definitely an intriguing book you should read.
