This book is about Dawn, one of the new members in the club. It is a great book but has a different illustrator than the previous four. It talks about Dawn's life and how she babysits two little kids. The end has a scary part, not for younger (7 and under) kids.

My daughter loves graphic novels especially the Baby-sitters Club series-so naturally when this newest edition came out we pre-ordered right away. She was so excited the day it came in the mail! If you have second/third graders and you have a hard time getting them engaged in reading I highly suggest this series, it’s hilarious, beautifully illustrated, and an all around great story line that keeps the kids deeply invested in reading!

This book was perfect! Just enough of my childhood memories with a modern twist for my daughter .

My daughter enjoyed the book. She did express a bit of disappointment that Raina Telgemeier was not the author and illustrator for this one like she was for the first four books.

My daughter said this has been her favorite book of the 5 Babysitter's Club graphic novels! She received it as a birthday present and read it in a single day. We went out to lunch and I had to ask her to put the book down and eat - she loved it THAT much! She's ready for the next one!

Book 5 in the series. I am seriously glad to red a cool and funny story. I have to thank my client K Murphy for introducing me to the author who started these books: Raina Telgemeier. She will love these books probably more than I do since they are in comic form. Who can resist a story, any story for that fact, in comic book form? Enjoyable reading.

Bought it for a birthday present and they liked it.

Politics and Presidents are touchy subjects, never more so then they currently are. So while I don't want to cross the line into the contentious, I have to be perfectly honest and say I never would have expected myself purchasing one of President Bush's books. But I watched an interview with him from Jimmy Kimmel's show while he was promoting this book, and when he mentioned that all the proceeds to to supporting causes for veterans, I said “I'm in”. Because I think supporting our vets and our troops is something that needs to cross party lines.In this book, former President Bush gives a brief narrative for why he took up painting and why he chose to focus so many on veterans in particular. The main body of the book contains the paintings and then brief vignettes about the individuals in each painting. He closes the book with some ideas that everyone can do to educate themselves about challenges veterans face when they come home and ways the we can stand by them as they navigate those challenges.I bought the kindle book, and it was super well linked. Each individual service member has their own link to their section. Reading the way President Bush writes about these service men actually gave me a new and expanded perspective on him, it is very evident in the way he writes that he does care about their causes and is touched by them personally and as individuals.He mentions in the book that he's a novice, and he's not sure how people will receive his works. I read a piece a couple years back by some artists and critics who weren't very flattering in their assessments, so I imagine he's already been exposed to some of that. Look, it's hard to put yourself out there with artwork, it's so subjective and based on personal tastes and preferences. What one person loves another loathes. I took a drawing class in college and got a B on a project...the professor's only reason was she hated my subject matter, thought it wasn't mature enough, the thrust of her criticism was not about my technique. That's how the world of art goes. Highly opinionated.I think it's true that President Bush's former occupation has given him a platform for public success in his artistic endeavors that many artists don't have, so he has not had to rely strictly on how appealing his works are to others. And yet, while the style he uses isn't my personal favorite, I do think his portraits convey emotion and give a sense of the personalities of the individuals he's painting, and in my mind, that's what makes a work successful...if it can evoke or convey emotion and expression.So overall, I think this is a well done, well written book that promotes a good cause and I find it to be an interesting and worthwhile read.

A PRESIDENTIAL WORK worthy of keep regardless of one’s political view. As an artist, I was intrigued to hear about this book by former President George W. Bush. The president took on art (painting) after leaving the office, without any previous art background, but his desire to paint lead to this book; Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief's Tribute to America's Warriors. The title of the book is kind of self-explanatory, it deals with the courageous men and women who served in the military. A story about their lives before their call of duty and their day to life now. These men and women are true heroes and heroine. The book 191 pages are filled with many, many characters and their stories. There is also a section in the book, I really like as an artist. It gives more details about the paintings. Such as the medium the president used and the size of the painting. Furthermore, the index section, allows the reader to quickly find each individual within the book. Another thing to mention is the dust jacket of the book. Its design is quite brilliant. There is representation of seven paintings on the front cover. These paintings have a separate texture than the dust jacket smooth coating. Therefore, it gives you the feel as if you were touching an oil painting on canvas. I thought this was brilliant. The book is a large book, measuring Ten by eight inches. It will make a great coffee table book and something special to keep in anyone's personal library. Also, the book will make a great gift for the men and women that featured in this book, or their families and people who know them, or anyone in general and all artists as well. Lastly, the president did not just paint these men and women, but he has met with most of them personally multiple of times. Like all True Commander in Chief should do.

I enjoyed reading “The Next Technology Goldrush” last year and so when I heard that Makerbot had banned this new book, I had to see what all the fuss was about. Controversy has its appeal.Although Makerbot in its new corporate guise comes in for a fair bit of criticism, banning the book outright seem s to be a bit of an over reaction and is likely to only succeed in making the book more popular. While the author criticizes the company's move away from the open source ethos and questions whether a 3D printing manufacturer owning a 3D file repository is a conflict of interests, the sheer amount of information that he includes regarding his own Makerbot experiments is bound to drive 3D printer sales ever upward.It was great to see a book that included real examples of what I could be printing to make a printer pay for itself. Not many other books in this field are so clear cut in this area. I have not yet got around to buying a printer, but when I do I will certainly be exploring some of the fascinating income streams that are explored here. The book even inspired me to come up with a few ideas of my own.The other thing that surprised me about this book is its prescience. A lot of the predictions are already starting to come true. From the adoption of the new AMF format to Local Motors printing the first 3D printed car, this guy must have printed a crystal ball to be able to see so clearly what impacts this technology is having. Cannot wait to see if the rest of his predictions start coming true.

I have found a bunch of books on 3D printing to be very boring and mostly just researched material. I really found myself actually enjoying this book as it was written from personal experiences. Great photos throughout of actual experiments helped to totally understand what you were reading. This author took time to explain simple enough that a novice can understand yet an experienced person doesn't get bored. Thumbs up!

About the Author

Jim "The Greek" Gianatsis served as an editor and contributor to Cycle News and many motorcycle magazines throughout the 1970's covering all the major AMA Outdoor National Motocross, Supercross and Trans-AM races. Great read if you are into vintage moto

This book has fantastic black & white photos of the 1973 to early 80's Elsinores and the motocross stars that rode them. There are specs and tips mostly for the 78-80 models but the groundbreaking 73 Elsinore 250 is not forgotten. There is even information about the early four strokes including XR's. If you rode a Honda during this era or just always wished you had one you need this book.

Like several reviewers, I would also suggest you stop reading the book at the point the Bradfords return and it is 'apple-picking time' again .From that point you have my permission to imagine your own ending to the story , hopefully consistent with the main plot and time period. In my opinion a very good story went haywire for reasons unknown and tumbled into odd 'regency-like romance' territory. To be honest, I would have flung a 'book' against the wall, but since I was reading on my Kindle I quickly ruled that out. I do appreciate this author, and have read two other books by her. But I am sorely tempted to ask her "Why?"

Our book club chose this to read. When we did, I thought at least there's a female central character, but I expected it to be a major depression inducing read. I was not certain that I would be able to finish it. But as I opened it, dutifully to at least attempt to "slog" through asap that I could tolerate, I was mesmerized by Anna's mind, observations, and life experiences. Even in her deepest moments of grief, there was something else that she needed to resolve and I wanted to know and share that with her. I literally could NOT put the story away and read the entire novel in one sitting. And it was not just Anna's life that snared my interest,...it was the entire village and the variety of human characters and their struggles facing death and life , painted with such truth, strengths and weaknesses and rationales and unreasonable reactions. It was indeed a transformative Year of Wonders! If you live long enough, you are guaranteed to live through some extended periods of time that shake your view of yourself and the role that you must play on this Earth and remake yourself or break. There were examples of the entire spectrum with these villagers. BRAVO Geraldine Brooks !!!

The ending of this book is so bizarre and out of touch with the rest of the book that it ruined it for me! There is a twist at the end that is just ridiculous and impossible to believe. Not only that, but the Kindle edition has so many,, distracting.errors. There will. be a. comma or.,, a period in the most random,,, places! I actually wish I could get my money back on this one. Yuck.

This was an interesting story about an episode in history I wasn’t familiar with—an outbreak of plague in a Derbyshire village in 1665. A young serving woman, Anna Frith, takes in a lodger—a tailor from London—who soon dies of plague, and before long villagers are dying right and left. The village rector and a nearby nobleman decide that the village must be cut off from the wider neighborhood, with the nobleman delivering food and supplies to the sufferers so that they will not leave and risk spreading the contagion to the countryside. A flash-forward at the beginning tells us more than we perhaps needed to know of the outcome; not sure it was wise to frame the story in this fashion. As the disease works its way through the villagers, the vagaries of human nature drive the action, making the experience of the characters both more and less traumatic.I liked the writing style very much, apart from a bit of awkwardness at the beginning. The author did not make a huge attempt at sounding “period,” which was a good choice; the point of view was demarcated by what the first-person narrator was in a position to know and understand about her world, which set us sufficiently in context without the use of self-consciously obsolete phrasings. There was some lovely new vocabulary to learn—always a plus for me! And the descriptions were vivid and lyrical—and occasionally visceral, especially a scene in a mine.For the most part, I felt the characters were well drawn and their actions made sense in context, though a few seemed to dance too much to the piping of the plot requirements. There were also a few more characters than could be followed with ease, though the number made sense because in a small village setting the heroine would naturally know everybody. The heroine’s religious skepticism seemed a little forced to me (and maybe too modern), but the idea that her faith was mostly a facet of her emotional attachments is psychologically plausible. As for the ending, which many reviewers have commented on, the first surprise made sense to me, but the final surprise seemed unnecessary and out of left field.*Year of Wonders* took me deep into its world and held me there. But someone needs to solve the conundrum of how to create a heroine who is true to her age but still relatable to modern readers! The independent-spirited young woman has become cliché and no longer holds any mystery for the reader. Perhaps writers need to look for inspiration to the strengths of a Fanny Price or an Anne Elliot.

Predictable today, and preventable today, the plague a few years following the Restoration of Charles II was a vicious killer, striking one person after another, with – to these people – no discernible cause nor connection. So most believed that the plague’s affliction was punishment for their own or their neighbor’s sins. Presently on holidays on England, and about to visit the Peak District, setting for this novel, I decided to read this as background. I've read many of Brook's novels, but had missed this, first, one. And it is a great beginning to an illustrious writing career. Based on fact, she has woven an engaging tale of human reaction to adversity. It's instructive to think what our own reaction would have been to such a challenge.

Steven G. Conover writes books on clock repair and clockmaking. His eleven titles include Clock Repair Basics, a beginning book; Chime Clock Repair, a text covering the most common chime clocks seen by repairers; Building an American Clock Movement, which illustrates how to make a complete timepiece movement; and Repairing French Pendulum Clocks, covering several types of French clocks.As editor of Clockmakers Newsletter, Steven published an eight-page subscription newsletter featuring clock repair articles, repair tips, questions & answers, and product reviews, from 1987 through 2008.He is working on a new Workshop Series version of Clockmakers Newsletter. Great repair guide [especially for the beginner like myself]. Steven's use of pictures and diagrams fully supports his discussion of repair topics and assists with learning the various parts, their names and function. A great follow-on to his "Basic Repair Guide". Although some prefer hard bound books, I like the loose spiral binding, it allows the reader to keep the page of interest open for reference while working at the bench. I will be ordering his "Chiming Clock Repair Guide" in the near future as well!His dedication to informing people interesting in clocks is evident. Purchased as a gift for my husband as he has been restoring and repairing clocks for many years. The book he found very thorough, great photos, and educational.

This book is about the strike mechanism only! This classic book was my first purchase on the subject. The author could use an editor. That said, he really works hard to make it understandable. Good for the collection, but you will want others to fill in the blanks of your understanding (but, to be fair, this might be true of any clock book).

i HAD A QUESTION ,SO I CALLED THE AUTHOR . HIS PHONE NUMBER IS IN THE FROM OF THE BOOK. I DIDN'T THINK THE NUMBER WOULD BE GOOD BUT HE ANSWERED AND I GOT WISDOM AT NO EXTRA CHARGE PLUS THE BOOK IS BRAND NEW NOT USED.

have a grandfather clock I need to sort of reassemble after we moved it. Really need a grandfather clock for dummies as this and the other books I purchased are for multiple styles of clocks and seem to be written for people who want to repair all types of clocks.

What a great reference book and it has tips in there that deal with adjusting the strike mechanism, very helpful.
